Ancient Art Midwifery® commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Ancient Art Midwifery® is committed to academic excellence in midwifery education, and a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for students.
A Grievance Committee, which includes students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, reviews policy, helps develop and refine curriculum, and addresses student grievances.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Ancient Art Midwifery® does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of students and volunteers, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all of our students, staff, clients, volunteers, and members.
The Whys of Cultural Competency Education in Ancient Art Midwifery®
Midwives are in a unique position to reach more families than the current maternity care system offers. We are challenged to:
• Reach the underserved, including members of marginalized identity groups
• Respond to rapidly changing demographics
• Fill international opportunities to practice
• Meet the needs for niche practices that concentrate efforts on service to a specific geographic area or identity group
A broad understanding of the complex issues facing health and midwifery care delivery prepares students to work with people from different backgrounds, no matter the setting. Even if a student never intends to work with a given population of people, knowing how to communicate and support families with dignity and compassion furthers the goals of safe and humane birth for all.
